Who is Jessica?

Hi! My name is Jessica and I am a children's illustrator as well as being a 200hr qualified Yoga Alliance teacher, so if you stumble into some more 'art-y' parts of my website, that's why! Alongside my art, I am passionate about yoga and teaching; I’ve been practising yoga for 7 years and in 2017 decided to become an instructor, completing my 200hr Yoga Alliance with Camyoga and loving every minute. It’s incredible what you can learn when you look at something through the lense of teaching - especially the experience of Yoga.

I love to create classes that are fun and friendly and positive for all; to help encourage people to discover for themselves how yoga can be beneficial and even transformative. Alongside creative sequencing and a balanced, mindful approach; my classes are often a mix of Vinyasa and Hatha with a bit of heat building and a good dose of restorative poses to help de-stress and unwind. I always want to help students walk off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished, and balanced - and happy to ask questions! If you need to get in touch, please feel free: jvdgoode@gmail.com

My Yoga for Beginners summer course is on Wednesdays 10:15 – 11:15 am 18th July - 29th August, at Happy Om Yoga Studio, Norwich

Morning Flow on Thursdays at 7:30 - 8:30 am at Happy Om Yoga Studio, Norwich

What should I bring to a Yoga Class?

The type of clothes you need for yoga will depend on what type of class you are going to. If you are going to a power or flow yoga class, you are probably going to sweat, so you would want to wear clothes similar to what you would wear to go running. A slower, more gentle class can have more 'casual' clothing but bear in mind it's still an exercise class and will require movement. It's important that you feel at ease, however.

Baggy T-shirts are fine for guys, but women might want to wear a tight-fitting top underneath so that when you are in an inversion (like Downward Dog), you stay comfortable without worrying about your shirt falling out of place. This can end up in women trying to pull their tops up in Shoulder Stand because they don't want their stomachs showing — which can be dangerous.

Wear quick-dry capri or full-length fitted sports leggings/trousers; this will help your instructor check your alignment

Also, yoga is practised barefoot so don't worry about shoes. Apart from that; just some water to stay hydrated, and maybe your favourite yoga mat if you have one. Other than that - Just yourself, a good sense of humour, and curiosity!

Where can I go to get more information about yoga and yoga terms?

You are not alone! All yoga practitioners were beginners once - in fact, yoga has been practised for thousands of years so there have probably been many, many others with the same questions. Some of them you might find answered here:
